My Fave Dairy Free Local Gelato Shop – Nani’s Gelato

Hi everyone,

Can’t believe how fast this summer has flew by, how’s everyone been enjoying the last few weeks of summer?? I certainly had a very busy August while working on my new website as you guys know and at the same time soaking in every sunny and humid summer days left in August by the beach, the pool and walks.

The last week of August, I went on my 1st mini getaway to Kawartha Lakes, ON with my family since the pandemic and it was a much needed relaxing and resting trip away from the city. We had beautiful weather up North in Kawartha Lakes with very humid and sunny days so we relaxed by the pool at the cottage for 3 days lol and enjoyed the peaceful outdoors along with every night doing bbq dinners as they had a bbq grill there…😊 It was a great mini getaway to end the summer. Did you guys go on a mini trip before the end of summer? Where did you go?? We decided to stay within Ontario our own province this summer until things are safer to travel.

2nd Post of my 3 Part End of Summer Series

Well it’s officially September, with the cooler Fall weather coming there are still warm and sunny days in September as in Toronto September always have the last few heatwaves so you can always still enjoy a sweet and frozen treat. No matter what the weather is, I always crave for a dairy free gelato or soft serve.

I’m excited to share with you for my 2nd post for my End of Summer Series to check out one of my new fave handcrafted & artisan unique gelato place, Nani’s Gelato located in the popular and trendy area of downtown Toronto near Yonge & Bloor that opened on May 29, 2020. I discovered them last summer (as previously posted in my other blog website) and I love continuing to show my support and love for Nani’s Gelato that I’m sharing with you guys again just in case you haven’t tried them yet or for my new readers to discover about this amazing and delicious unique gelato place that offers dairy free options.

They serve gelato, soft serves and sorbets. Why I love Nani’s Gelato? They offer dairy free & vegan options for selected soft serves flavours and all their sorbets are dairy free, which is perfect for me as you guys know I’m allergic to dairy.

Nani’s Gelato all their gelatos & sorbets are made with fresh premium ingredients from scratch on a daily basis. At Nani’s Gelato, they don’t use any artificial colorings or powders to make their gelato or sorbet. They focus on serving the best handcrafted premium gelato in a small batch made freshly daily. They don’t compromise on quality. They want the best final products for their customers.

As well, Parry, the owner discovered that gelato was the best option for flexibility in making vegan friendly and dairy free flavours, which caters to more people suited for their dietary needs. I love that Nani’s Gelato decided to expand their gelato and sorbets to people like me who are dairy free as there is now more people who don’t eat dairy anymore because it is a healthier option.

Check out below for a more detailed description of their base they use for their vegan and dairy free flavours,

“In regards to our vegan and non-dairy flavor profiles, we utilize water, rice milk, oat milk, cashew milk, almond milk and coconut milk as our bases to produce a variety of vegan flavor profiles.”

What is special about Nani’s Gelato is that their flavours are inspired by Asian, Indian and Italian flavours, which is an unique twist and I love that creativity that they bring to their gelato and frozen desserts. So every 2 weeks, they change up their gelato and sorbet flavours to new and sweet different Asian, Indian & Italian inspired combination of flavours. Isn’t that great? I love trying their new flavours and then you discover new flavours that you love!!

History of Nani’s Gelato

In late 2018, Nani’s Gelato was officially created by Parry who was inspired by his father’s work in the restaurant industry and who purchase an iconic local ice cream parlour where Parry love of ice cream developed. Parry started Nani’s Gelato as a food truck and with his successful business growing as local customers fell in love with Parry’s handcrafted premium gelato and sorbets and loving the Asian and Indian flavours that he finally opened his own store in May 2020 as you see now located at Yonge and Bloor on Charles Street East and continuing to expand his business with a 2nd location in Mississauga, ON now open.

Update (July 2025)

For those (my readers) who live closer in the West end, they have now opened their 2nd location in Mississauga (Address: 6039 Erin Mills Parkway, Intersection of Erin Mills Parkway and Britannia Rd West). They wanted more space for their gelato production so they decided to create this location for those who live in the West end to enjoy their gelato and sorbets as well. Both locations are open and operating. I haven’t been to the Mississauga location as it’s further for me to travel to. I still prefer going to their main location at Yonge and Bloor as it’s more convenient for me to go to but with more locations opened now they are making it more convenient for their customers to enjoy their gelato across the GTA.

Since I first wrote this post, Nani’s Gelato has expanded with more locations across the GTA from West to East in Markham so I thought that I update you guys, my readers on their latest new locations if you are looking for a closer location for you to go to. I’m excited for Nani’s Gelato to be expanding their business for more of their customers across Ontario to enjoy their freshly made gelato and sorbets. My Amazing Experience with Nani’s Gelato

Their cozy store front

I was excited to finally return back to Nani’s Gelato a year later around the same time back last year the beginning of August. I was back again the beginning of August just in time for their peach sorbet flavour as some of you know, I love all things with peach in it…😊

Nani’s Gelato is a cozy and small mainly takeout shop just on the corner of Yonge and Charles St. East. You can’t miss it!! Nani’s Gelato shop is following all Covid-19 safe protocols (yes sometimes you will find a line up at their store as there is a limit of people inside the store due to the size but it’s all worth it) and I love how they are keeping us all safe while we still enjoy sweet and refreshing frozen desserts! The staff there is very friendly and informative about the gelato and sorbets. I always feel very welcomed at the shop and loved seeing a good variety of options of flavours to choose from. Nani’s Gelato offers at least 2 dairy free (vegan) options. They rotate their flavours bi-weekly so every 2 weeks of 8 gelato flavours with 2 vegan options & 2 soft serve gelato flavours. They have pints available of their current rotation flavours for you to take home as well to enjoy.

Nani’s Gelato changes their flavour rotations on Mondays so you can always find out their list of currently available gelato and sorbet flavours on their social media accounts (check out the links below for their Instagram and Facebook) as they post them there.

This time, I got their Niagara Peach Sorbetto in a cup and it was simply delicious, creamy and it tasted more of a white peach flavour but definitely delicious and fresh taste. I can tell that they used fresh peaches. It melted quite fast though their sorbets because that day it was quite humid.

Last year in August 2020, when I stopped by Nani’s Gelato I got their Mango Passionfruit Dairy free Soft Serve along with their Mango Passionfruit pint to bring home to enjoy as well. Wow the Mango Passionfruit tasted like a tropical vibes in your mouth! I love the soft creamy texture as well!

I wanted to share with you guys the difference between their soft serve and sorbetto texture in case you were wondering that the soft serve is more creamy, but both taste just as delicious filled with flavour and freshly made.

Why I Love Nani’s Gelato

Nani’s Gelato is definitely one of my new fave gelato shop that I always continue to go to for their dairy free soft serve and sorbet for the summer or any season because I love my sweet and refreshing sorbets all year round. Nani’s Gelato definitely brought my expectations of gelato and sorbets to a higher level and I love their premium and handcrafted products along with their unique and inspired Asian, Indian & Italian flavours to gelato and sorbets because not every gelato shop offers what they offer in quality of taste and uniqueness of flavours!!

I highly recommend Nani’s Gelato to all my readers to definitely check them out in person at their store or they also offer delivery on their website if you can’t make it to the store. It’s definitely worth to order their minimum 3 pints (it may have changed so please check with them). You can check out their website below for more information on their GTA delivery and their store hours.

I always get at least 1 pint when I visit and stock up during the summer and winter months to enjoy their freshly made sorbet pints at home. It’s the perfect pint to enjoy their refreshing and sweet pints at home while watching tv or a sweet frozen snack to enjoy at night time. They last quite a long time for me as it’s a good size.

While the summer maybe ending, I hope that my recommendation to my fave local gelato shop to Nani’s Gelato satisfy your sweet, tropical and summer cravings and with Fall around the corner, you can always indulge in sweet fall vibes flavours from them as they always have new and exciting flavours for every season to enjoy a dairy free frozen dessert.
