My Summer Frozen Dessert Series: Kingston Best Local Gelato Shop, Mio Gelato

Hi everyone,

I’m back now from my amazing and crazy busy end of the summer!! I can’t believe how fast this summer past by for me especially near the end of the summer with 2 summer trips, which I know was a lot to do back to back within 2 weeks of each other. I somehow survived it and been on recovery mode from all the travelling and trying to catch up on 3 weeks of being away. It’s been a lot for me to get back to my routine in September, but I’m happy to be back with one last summer post for you all as I know it’s already Fall & can’t believe it and the beginning of October, but it doesn’t mean the warm weather is over just yet. As I love a warm Fall season!! So sorry, I wanted to do more summer posts for you guys just didn’t expect my summer to be this busy.

How was everyone last month of summer in August been? I hope that everyone enjoyed the humid and sunny days this summer. I enjoyed every minute I can during these hot and sunny summer days.

My beautiful lakeview Cottage dock view in Belleville

My first trip was the 2nd last week of August with my family where we went to East of Ontario in beautiful and stunning Belleville, ON for a cottage getaway. We stayed at a very cozy and modern updated cottage with a lake as our backyard with a beautiful deck to enjoy when it wasn’t raining unfortunately we had a few days of rain and the rest was sunshine. We got to enjoy a beach day at Sandbanks beach as well as explored Wellington, ON on our other days. Overall, a nice and mostly relaxing stay.

Then I went on my 2nd and last trip for the summer the week after to Ottawa and Kingston for a concert in Ottawa. While for Kingston, my mini vacay for myself as it was great to be back one of my fave travel beautiful city where I love this charming city vibes with the waterfront views and peaceful atmosphere every time I come to Kingston. This is where I discovered my fave gelato place in Kingston a few years ago and where I always go for a sweet and refreshing sorbet and excited to finally share it with you guys.

Post 2 ~ The Sweet Foodie’s Summer Frozen Dessert Series

If you haven’t been to Kingston, ON before, here’s a few things to know about my fave travel destination and why I fell in love with this city and why you should definitely visit Kingston yourself to see what I’m talking about. Kingston is known as the “Limestone City” because of the many heritage buildings constructed using local limestone creating a rustic and charming city. It is located on Lake Ontario at the mouth of the Cataraqui and St. Lawrence rivers, which makes their beautiful waterfront the picturesque place to be. They have a vibrant downtown with lot of shops for shopping, a variety of restaurants to dine at, a historic public square called: Springer Market Square in the heart of Kingston for their farmer’s market & city’s activities with a view of the waterfront, fountains and boats. It is a quaint and friendly city where the pace is slower and you can enjoy this beautiful city with the view of the lake any part of downtown. That’s just a few things why I love about Kingston. More importantly, I love their local restaurants and cuisine where I discover new plant based and dairy free restaurants and bakeries.

I’m so excited to share with you Mio Gelato, my absolutely fave must go to gelato place whenever I’m in Kingston. They are located in the heart of downtown Kingston by the water. It is the perfect place to grab a sweet and frozen sorbet and gelato to enjoy. They are locally owned and opened in 2010 where they bring authentic Italian gelato to the Kingston area. They make their freshly homemade gelato, sorbetto and yogurt on site using local ingredients, which inspires their seasonal flavours.

If you are wondering what Mio stands for, it means = Making It Ourselves. I love their concept of providing fresh local desserts to their satisfy their customers sweet cravings. Mio Gelato continues to deliver superior, healthier and fresh products of gelato and sorbetto to their local customers with exceptional customer service. I always love supporting local businesses and this is one I’m happy to always support.

There are many reasons why I love Mio Gelato, another main reason why I’m recommending to my readers to this local gelato place in Kingston is because of the large selection of sorbetto flavours that they offer for customers like me who are dairy free and with allergies. I love that they accommodate people with friendly allergy flavours and not just one to two flavours but they have about up to 10 flavours of sorbetto that they offer. I love the variety of selection of flavours as I always have a hard time deciding which one I want to try as they are all delicious and love the seasonal inspired ones too. That’s why I’m always excited to stop by Mio Gelato for their exciting variety of flavours!!

That day when I stopped by Mio Gelato, it was quite busy as it was a hot summer day and the last long Labour Day weekend, but I didn’t have to wait too long with their fast, but friendly customer service where one of their staff who still was patient and cater to help me pick out a flavour. I ended up getting their summer peach and Raspberry flavours. I love that you can still get a small cup and get 2 flavours mixed yet it’s still a huge scoops. I love the portion size at Mio Gelato. It is just right.

No one makes peach sorbet like Mio Gelato as it was sweet, perfect still creamy texture (it didn’t melt that fast like other places) and full of peachy flavour and you can definitely tell it was made from fresh peaches!! I felt like I was eating a real peach and with the raspberry perfect tartness made it the perfect combination. It was the perfect sweet and frozen treat after my long walk from the Waterfront Trail.

So if you live in the Kingston area or if you are planning to visit Kingston, Mio Gelato is definitely the gelato place to go to satisfy your sweet, dairy free and frozen cravings with the best sorbet in Ontario.

If you haven’t checked them out, you definitely are missing out as they have just released their Fall flavours for 2022 in their store such as Apple Cider, Pumpkin Latte, Maple Pecan, Apple Cinnamon Cheesecake and more. Some of those flavours are gelato and not all are dairy free, you will have to stop by in store to find out. I’m sadly missing out these cozy Fall flavours and I’m already looking forward to my next visit.
